ASTM A778 Stainless Steel Welded Pipe

These pipes are manufactured using flat-rolled austenitic stainless steel and welded by shielded arc welding techniques, either in straight seam or spiral seam configuration.
TP317L is a low-carbon, molybdenum-bearing austenitic stainless steel with superior corrosion resistance compared to TP316L, especially in chloride-rich and acidic environments.

Each production lot shall undergo:
One transverse tension test
Two transverse guided bend tests
As per ASTM A778 Section 7.
Permissible Wall Thickness Variations
According to ASTM A778 Section 10.4, unless otherwise specified, the wall thickness tolerance is:
±12.5% of the nominal wall thickness
Applies to all diameters and forming methods.
Manufacturing Process
As per ASTM A778 Section 6:
Pipes are manufactured from flat-rolled stainless steel sheets or plates by manual or automatic electric-welding processes.
TP317L filler metal is used when welding on TP317L base metal (see AWS A5.9 or A5.4).
Reinforcing beads shall not exceed 1/16 in. [1.57 mm].
The pipe is delivered unannealed and must be scale-free.
Weld defects must be removed and repaired by rewelding.

Single longitudinal seam (≤14 in. OD)
Spiral butt seam (≤14 in. OD)
Multiple longitudinal seams (≥16 in. OD)
