TP201 vs TP201LN: Composition & Performance Comparison
While TP201 and TP201LN share a similar base chemistry and are both classified as low-nickel austenitic stainless steels, TP201LN offers improved corrosion resistance, cleaner microstructure, and higher hardness limits due to its lower carbon (0.03% vs 0.15%) and sulfur content, combined with a slightly higher nitrogen and copper allowance.
Lower carbon in TP201LN improves resistance to intergranular corrosion, particularly after welding.
Higher nitrogen and controlled copper enhance strength and pitting resistance, especially in mildly aggressive environments.
The higher hardness limit of TP201LN (250 HBW) indicates slightly improved mechanical strength and better surface durability.
This makes TP201LN the preferred choice for more demanding environments where cleanliness, weld integrity, and extended corrosion performance are critical.
