What is ASTM A213 Standard?
ASTM A213 is an internationally recognized specification for seamless ferritic and austenitic alloy-steel tubes used in high-temperature services. Its scope includes grades such as T11, T22, T91 (ferritic alloy steel) and TP304L, TP316L, TP347H (austenitic stainless steel), which are chosen based on performance needs.
Core Requirements
Seamless Manufacturing: Tubes must be produced without welds using either hot rolling or cold drawing.
Heat Treatment: All tubes must undergo solution annealing (for austenitic grades) or normalizing and tempering (for ferritic grades).
Corrosion Resistance: Austenitic grades such as TP316L and TP347H offer excellent corrosion resistance, especially against chlorides, acids, and high-temperature oxidation.
Testing: Tubes are subject to 100% non-destructive testing (NDT), including:
Hydrostatic test or eddy current test
Tensile strength and yield strength test
Hardness and flattening tests
Intergranular corrosion test (for grades like TP347H)
